Metsän kiertokulku

Metsien puut eivät elä ikuisesti, vaan ränsistyvät ikääntyessään; tavalliset lehtipuut reilusti alle 100-vuoden ikäisinä ja kuusetkin noin 100-vuotiaasta alkaen. Mänty on puulajeista pitkäikäisin.

Tällä mäellä kasvavat männyt on istutettu avohakkuualueelle vuonna 1983.

The cycle of life and
death in the forest

The trees of the forests do not live forever, they decay as they grow old – typical broadleaf trees in well less than the age of 100 years and even spruces from around the age of 100. The pine is the longest-living tree species.

According to studies, old natural forests have regenerated every 200 to 400 years either after a forest fire or storm damage.

The pines growing on this hill have been planted in a clear-cutting area in 1983. In 2019, they are approximately 15 meters high and within the next 40 years they will grow to their full size, reaching approximately 28 metres. The spruce woods seen behind the pines was formed naturally almost 100 years ago, and the trees have ceased growing in height and are approximately 25 metres tall.
