Sights and Destinations
Hyvinkää Art Museum exhibits both Finnish and international art. As a permanent exhibit the museum has Karin and Eric Sonck's collection of Yrjö Saarinen's art. Hyvinkää Art Museum and the Promenadigalleria of the Hyvinkää Art Society organise the Taju-exhibit during the summer.
The Finnish Railway Museum gives a clear and versatile picture of the history
of the Finnish railway system in a genuine railway milieu. The most interesting parts of the spectacular collection are the Russian imperial train, the oldest existing steam locomotive in Finland and the oldest rail car Fiat in the country. During the summer children can enjoy a ride on the miniature locomotive in the yard.
History, modern working culture and various organisations and events come together in the historical settings of the Wool mill. The area compasses museums, art facilities, a sports hall, a restaurant, cafes, and as the newest addition, the town hall, where you'll find the tourist office.
The new Villa Arttu Cultural Centre for Children and Young People added zest to the old mill when it opened in November 2005. Villa Arttu gathers under its roof the unique Art Centre for Children and Young People, the Hyvinkää Art School for Chldren and Young People and the handicrafts school Hyvinkään Helmi. With the help of these elements, more versatile opportunities are created for children and adolescents' visual and craft skills.
The Art Centre for Children and Young People is a national art centre whose collection of internation children's art consists of 80 000 pieces from 124 countries. You can experience different cultures through the changing exhibitions. Children can conjure up their own creative abilities in the workshops.
At the Valvilla Wool Mill Museum you can get acquainted with the history of the weaving industry in Hyvinkää in an old fire station building.
The cultural history of Hyvinkää is full of various famous names such as, Schjerfbeck, Sallinen and Saarinen. In Tyko Sallinen and Jalmari Ruokokoski's studio milieu Humala and Krapula (Intoxication and Hangover) there is a sculpture exhibition by the previous occupant, sculptor Terho Sakki.
You can meet adorable teddy bears in Teddygrandpapa's House at the Teddy Bear Museum. There are over 1000 teddy bears and other soft
nostalgia toys from the early 20th century. You can buy your own furry friend from the museum shop!
The versatile repertoire of Hyvinkää Hall provides both musical and theatrical experiences. The venue is also suitable for both fairs and private functions. You can also take a twirl at the weekly dance.
